Apple Inc: A "Copyist"?!



Fresh and interesting article posted on Business Insider about "9 New iPhone Features Apple Copied From Android And Others Today". 

Should we all be super impressed by what we heard during Apple's annual developers conference, WWDC 2014 keynote, on Monday? I have mixed feelings about that. Don't get me wrong, I like and love Apple. However, it appears that the tradition of "borrowing" software features from big and small companies continues this year. In several lawsuits, Apple likes to refer to other competitors, such as Samsung, as "copyist". Yesterday, in CA, it was hard to miss that most of the (new) features were copied from Android and other popular apps and services like Dropbox, WhatsApp, Google Drive and Snapchat. One may ask: Is Apple still an innovator Company today?

Apple's new iPhone keyboard has a feature called QuickType, which can predict what word you're likely to type next. Android phones and BlackBerry phones have had this for years.

Speaking of keyboards, Apple will let you replace the iOS 8 keyboard with a third-party keyboard like Swype. Android has always let you customize your keyboard.

You can activate Siri in the car without touching your phone. You just say, "Hey, Siri." Google already does that on some Android phones with the command, "OK, Google."

All your iPhone photos sync to iCloud. Android phones can do that automatically through Google+ photos. And, unlike Apple, Google gives you unlimited storage for your photos.

iOS 8 will let you store widgets in your notification center. Android phones have always had widgets.

iCloud Drive is an online storage service for Macs, iPhone, iPads, and even Windows PCs. It's almost identical to Dropbox and Google Drive.

iMessage will let you send audio and video clips, a feature already found in WhatsApp and Snapchat.

The App Store will let you watch video demos of apps before you download them. The Google Play store for Android apps has always had video demos".

NSA Collects Millions Of e-mail And Instant Messaging (IM) Accounts Around The World

Fresh and interesting article from Reuters about  U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) collecting hundreds of millions of contact lists from personal email and instant messaging (IM) accounts around the world: 'The collection program intercepts email address books and "buddy lists" from instant messaging services as they move across global data links, the newspaper said in an article posted on its website, citing senior intelligence officials and documents provided by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden. The Post said analyzing that data lets the NSA search for connections and map relationships among foreign intelligence targets. The data collection takes place outside the United States, but sweeps in the contacts of many Americans, the report said, citing two senior U.S. intelligence officials.
