Did Facebook Small Team Work On a Big Idea?
Twitter's Vine vs. Facebook's Instagram Video App.
This morning, I read a couple of articles about the new Facebook's Instagram video app (check the video here). It's still hard to know what people think about it in terms of comparison with Twitter's Vine... Some are upset about it (for instance).
What is this new product exactly about? Basically, it's just
another way to share your stories (what else can you expect from Facebook's mission?). "When you go to take a photo on
Instagram, you’ll now see a movie camera icon. Tap it to enter video mode, where
you can take up to fifteen seconds of video through the Instagram camera. (...)
When you post a video, you’ll also be able to select your favorite scene from
what you’ve recorded as your cover image so your videos are beautiful even when
they’re not playing", explained Instagram on its blog.
Facebook was created to make the world more open and connected.
Even though the big Internet Giant was the first one to create an "apperating
system" with FacebookHome, see http://d-is-freshinteresting.blogspot.nl/2013/04/welcome-homegoodbye-apps-facebook-just.html, their leadership is not dependent on innovation (such as creating a new
mobile video) but simply on the belief that "a more open world is a better
world".
Like it or not, they needed to compete with other technology
companies, such as Twitter (more precisely, Vine mobile app that enables its users to create and post video clips). And if you can do it without innovate much
to stay ahead of the competition (in other words, if you can do it by getting inspired by other companies
or mobile apps), it is even better right?! On the other hand, some people may think that
after Facebook's decision to finally embrace hashtags last week (http://mashable.com/2013/06/12/facebook-hashtag-support/), adding this video app was perhaps a bit too much...
For a complete analysis of the differences between Facebook
and Vine, I strongly recommend you to read this brilliant article of TechCrunh:
